Morocco international Issa Diop has represented his country on nine occasions, finding the net once.
The centre-back, who featured five times for the North African nation during their run to the World Cup last-four stage, has committed to Portman Road until the summer of 2030.
Diop, who turns 30 later this year, brings a wealth of top-flight experience to an Ipswich side promoted from the Championship last term, having made 173 Premier League appearances across spells with both West Ham and Fulham.
The defender expressed his enthusiasm about the move, stating he is looking forward to this new chapter with the club, that he is aware of the club’s stature and that the discussions held before finalising the transfer convinced him this was the ideal destination. He noted the demanding nature of his recent schedule, having represented his country at the World Cup, but emphasised his pride in joining Ipswich and his eagerness to meet the coaching staff, squad and fanbase shortly.
Diop moved to east London from Toulouse back in 2018 and spent four years with the Hammers before relocating to the capital’s other club, Fulham, in 2022 in a deal worth £15m.
During his time at Craven Cottage, he accumulated 96 appearances across all competitions, though he managed only eight top-flight starts during the most recent campaign.
The acquisition marks the club’s sixth signing of the current transfer window, following the capture of Ghanaian wide player Abdul Fatawu from Leicester earlier this week in a transaction worth £20m.
Forward Emersonn arrived from Toulouse at the beginning of this month for a club-record fee approaching £26m.
Cedric Kipre, a defender, and Chuba Akpom, a striker, have both completed permanent transfers after spending last season on loan at the club, while goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen has transferred from Dutch club FC Volendam.
